Dr. Son N. Nguyen

Dr. Nguyen (Ph.D.’2015, UMass Amherst) is a Kaltashov’s group alumni whose Ph.D. dissertation focused on developing novel analytical tools involving a variety of HPLC methods and ESI-MS to support design, optimization and characterization of transferrin-based therapeutics. Upon successful defense of the Ph.D. dissertation, he went to Pacific Northwest National Laboratory for his postdoctoral research training under the guidance of Dr. Julia Laskin. There, his research focused on developing mass spectrometry approaches for ambient multimodal imaging of tissue sections, living microbial communities, and individual cells, specifically nano-spray desorption electrospray ionization mass spectrometry imaging (nano-DESI MSI). Dr. Nguyen continued his work on developing novel mass spectrometry-based analytical tools as an Assistant Professor at the Vietnam National University, Hanoi after leaving PNNL. His works have resulted in nine papers published in peer-review journals and two US patents.

Recently, he has rejoined our group and now works on multiple projects involving heparin using cross-path reactive chromatography (XP-RC) and proteomics methods.
